Honda recalls 1.9 lakh cars across various models in India

The company, which is present in India through a wholly-owned arm Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), announced that it will voluntarily replace the Takata passenger front airbag inflators in these models, which were manufactured between 2003 and 2011.
“The replacement will be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner. While the campaign for CR-V and Civic will begin immediately, the replacement of inflators for other affected models would begin from September 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly,” HCIL said in a statement.
Millions of vehicles have been recalled across the globe due to defective safety airbag manufactured by Japan’s Takata Corp.

According to the company, the recall will affect 22,483 units of the premium sedan Accord manufactured between 2003-2011.
As many as 1,37,270 units of the company’s best selling sedan City manufactured between 2008-2011 will be covered, while 15,706 units of premium hatchback Jazz produced between 2009-2011 are also affected.
HCIL further said 13,605 units of the now discontinued sedan Civic manufactured between 2007-2011 are also affected by the exercise.
The recall will also impact 1,514 units of SUV CR-V produced between 2009-2011, it added.
Millions of vehicles have been recalled across the globe due to defective safety airbag manufactured by Japan’s Takata Corp. It has affected vehicles manufacturers across brands, including BMW, Chrysler, Daimler Trucks, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota.

Curfew clamped in Kashmir ahead of Friday prayers

Srinagar: Curfew was on Friday clamped in  Kashmir  in view of Friday prayers which see large congregations as authorities apprehended fresh violence in the Valley where 36 persons have died and over 3,100 injured in clashes following the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani  last week. No major clash was reported yesterday from anywhere in Kashmir where uneasy calm prevailed with normal life remaining disrupted since last Saturday. The official said the decision to impose curfew was taken as there were apprehensions that vested interests might exploit the large gatherings at Friday prayers to instigate fresh violence. Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in strength across the Valley for strict implementation of the prohibitory orders, the official said.
